Vodafone, Cassava Technologies, and Egyptian industrial conglomerate Elsewedy Electric have formed a joint venture called Africa Data Centers Egypt, bringing together a global telecom giant, a pan-African digital infrastructure specialist, and a major local industrial player to build out data centre capacity in Egypt. The three-way structure is notable — it pairs Vodafone’s global reach and Cassava’s African infrastructure expertise with Elsewedy’s deep local manufacturing and construction capabilities, potentially speeding up how quickly physical infrastructure can actually get built on the ground.
Egypt has increasingly positioned itself as a strategic digital gateway linking Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, thanks to its location along major subsea cable routes and its large domestic market. A dedicated local joint venture backed by three well-capitalised partners signals growing confidence that Egypt’s data centre market has reached a scale worth this kind of coordinated, multi-party investment, rather than any single company building out capacity alone.
